Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Injured, Withdraws from Olympic 100m

Jamaican Sprint Legend Pulls Out of Semifinals

Injury May Force Fraser-Pryce to Miss Olympics

SAINT-DENIS, France -- Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has sustained a muscle injury that forced her to withdraw from the women's 100-meter semifinals at the World Athletics Championships 2023.

The three-time Olympic gold medalist was set to compete in the semifinals on Sunday, August 6, but experienced pain during her warm-up.

Fraser-Pryce, who has been battling with a hamstring injury in recent weeks, was visibly distraught as she left the track. The severity of her injury is yet to be determined, but it could potentially jeopardize her participation in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

The Jamaican runner expressed her disappointment at missing out on the opportunity to compete in the 100m semifinals.

"I'm really disappointed that I won't be able to compete tonight," said Fraser-Pryce. "I've been working hard all season and I was looking forward to running in front of the crowd in Paris. I'll now focus on getting healthy and hopefully I'll be able to compete in the Olympics."

Fraser-Pryce's injury is a major setback for the Jamaican team, which is hoping to reclaim its dominance in the women's 100m. The injury also casts doubt on Fraser-Pryce's chances of winning a fourth Olympic gold medal in Paris.
