The National Hurricane Center has downgraded Tropical Storm Beryl to a tropical depression as it approaches the Texas coast. While wind speeds have decreased, the storm is still expected to bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding to the region.
Seven Killed in Houston Area as Storm Rages
At least seven people have died in the Houston area as a result of the storm. Strong winds and heavy rains have caused widespread damage, with some areas reporting up to 100 mph gusts.
Residents in coastal areas have been urged to evacuate as the storm is expected to make landfall near Matagorda, approximately 100 miles southwest of Houston, at around 1 or 2 am local time.
