Governor Josh Shapiro signed into law a bipartisan budget for fiscal year 2024-25 on Thursday, July 11. The budget includes funding for a variety of initiatives, including education, law enforcement, and infrastructure.
One key component of Shapiro's budget proposal is funding for a new higher education program. The program would provide free tuition to students at Pennsylvania's 14 state-owned universities.
The budget also includes funding to increase the number of state police officers. Shapiro has said that he wants to add 200 new state police officers to the force.
The budget also includes funding for a number of infrastructure projects, including road and bridge repairs.
The budget was passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly with a vote of 102-99 in the House and 26-23 in the Senate.
