FBI Seizes Gold Bars, Cash in Bribery Case
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez has been convicted of accepting bribes from three businessmen in exchange for political favors. The bribery included cash, gold bars, and a luxury car valued at nearly $630,000.
FBI agents seized the gold bars, worth nearly $150,000, and cash totaling more than $480,000 during a raid on Menendez's home and office. The cash was mostly found in stacks of $100 bills.
Menendez, 60, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was found guilty of one count of conspiracy, eight counts of bribery, and one count of honest services fraud. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
